【I introduced “CAFE AALTO,” a space where you can enjoy the worldview of Nordic master Alvar Aalto. (Time Out Tokyo)】
Have you heard of the movie “Kamome Diner”? It’s a popular film released in 2006, and many people may know the title even if they haven’t seen it. Since the film is closely associated with cafes and coffee shops, many readers of this blog are likely familiar with it. I’m one of those who love the atmosphere that permeates the film.
The cafe featured in “Kamome Diner” and popular with Japanese tourists is located in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. It’s called “CAFE AALTO,” located in a corner of the Academia Bookstore, designed by the master Alvar Aalto.
This summer, CAFE AALTO’s first overseas branch opened in Marunouchi, Tokyo. The interior features the same furniture and lighting as the flagship store, faithfully recreating the wall tiles and decorations. Located on the fourth floor of the Shin-Maru Building, the large windows offer a stunning view of the greenery of the Imperial Palace stretching into the distance!
I tried some of the restaurant’s popular menu items to celebrate the opening, and I’ve written a report on them. The salmon soup was really delicious, but when I enjoyed the chewy cinnamon roll and the typically Nordic light roast coffee together, it felt like all the tension in my body was slowly easing away.
This article introduces the must-try menu items when you visit, the highlights of the store, and the thoughts of the owner of the main store. Be sure to check it out.
